NSS - Project Afghanistan

“Provision of Technical Assistance to the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development for further development of a national poverty, vulnerability and food security surveillance system, Kabul and provinces, Afghanistan”

Overall Objective:

Afghan poverty levels are reduced

Immediate Objectives:

Information is generated by the National Food Security and Nutritional Surveillance System (NSS) and contributes to improved policy development and programming. Relevant government institutions have the capacity to implement NSS activities in the future.

Expected Project Results:

  • Result A: Institutionalisation of the NSS activities within the government structure is finalised.

  • Result B: The information collected under the NSS meets the needs of stakeholders and is utilised by MRRD Vulnerability Analysis Unit and other relevant ministries’ departments to inform and advocate for policies and programmes.

  • Result C: Capacity developed of government staff so that they can carryout credible, timely and regular production of poverty/livelihood data and analysis

  • Result D: All components of NSS are implemented and sequenced so that they meet government planning cycles (see diagram below)

  • Result E: The Project is regularly monitored and the different components are supported with sound technical advice.
The project is the 2. Phase of the support provided to the establishing and implementation of the National Food Security and Nutritional Surveillance System (NSS).
The EU funded project is implemented in a close cooperation between the EU, the UN and other bi- and multilateral Donors. The integration of the project into the Afghan Government and the linkage to UN- and other organisations is shown in the Project Organisation Graph.
